Making Your Own Butter from Raw Milk

Raw milk and freshly made butter have wonderful health benefits. Our family loves to make butter, both from raw goats milk and raw cows milk. Though you will need to look at the raw milk laws in your area to learn how you can purchase it. Cows Milk generally produces more butter than goats milk and they are different flavors, but, you will do the same thing to make both.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 gallons of Raw Milk

  • Stand Mixer

  • Large bowl full of ice and water

  • Himalayan Salt

  • Plastic wrap

  • Parchment paper (optional)

Instructions:

1. Pour the milk into the stand mixer and blend for about 15 minutes

  • While it is blending watch it, the milk will begin to get more creamy

  • You want to blend until you start seeing the separation between the buttermilk and the butter. (You can use the buttermilk for pancakes or another recipe)

2. Once the butter is separated from the buttermilk, pull the butter out and squeeze as much of the buttermilk as you can out of the butter.

3. Place the butter in your large bowl full of ice and water and continue squeezing the buttermilk out of the butter. Try and get all of it out.

  • This is something that kids absolutely love to do! Our kids have so much fun making butter!

4. Once all the buttermilk is squeezed out of the butter, add the Himalayan Salt to the butter and getting it all mixed in.

5. Form the butter into a butter log and place it on parchment paper and then wrap it all in plastic wrap, or just place it directly on the plastic wrap and wrap it up. Store it in the refrigerator for biscuits, muffins, pancakes and whatever else sounds delicious to you.
