Litter Training Your French Lop

Here are some great websites that we thought might help you decide how you want to litter train your French Lop Rabbit/Bunny if that is something that you are interested in doing. Having your bunny spayed or neutered plays a huge role in the success of litter box training. After that, it is usually pretty easy. Bunnies are very smart!

You will want a pretty big litter box. In the box, we recommend putting some pine pellets or pine shavings. Bunnies like to go to the bathroom while they are eating, so it is helpful to put hay above the litter box, similar to the center picture above.

When your sweet bunny has an accident, clean it up with vinegar and paper towel if it is urine. Place the urine covered paper towel in the litter box, showing your bunny, this is where he/she is supposed to use the bathroom. If it is poop, simply take a dust pan and a broom and sweep up the poop and place it in the litter box.

While your bunny is litter box training, do not have any cloth, boxes or mats in the cage area, or it will be difficult to train your bunny. They automatically think, "This is where I am supposed to go potty."

Do not let the litter box get too dirty or the bunny will not want to use it. Bunnies like a clean environment.

They generally catch on pretty quickly. Please let us know if you have any questions. Otherwise, here are some links below that you may find helpful:
